UKCP training standards now include requirements for training programmes to offer sessions for students to develop research skills. This element of training is more established in some training schemes than in others. As one aim of the Research Faculty, as set out by the Board of Trustees, is 'to support and collaborate with colleges, and OM's Faculties, in providing training in research methods', this workshop is intended to provide support to trainers as they develop and deliver these parts of the training scheme.
The workshop will be in the form of presentations and discussion around three themes: helping trainees see the relevance of research to practice; increasing trainees' skills in understanding and interpreting research findings; identifying the fundamental principles of research methods which trainees need to know. Delegates will be able to share their experience and review the depth, extent and delivery of these components within their own programmes of training in small working groups. The day will end with a plenary session in which the participants will be invited to define their outstanding needs. This will include discussions about the potential value of developing resources within UKCP: one idea being discussed informally is the development of a series of visual and written materials.
This event will be led by members of the Research Faculty Committee, including Tirril Harris, Georgia Lepper and Carol Martin. They have substantial experience of research, training and clinical practice and have been involved with previous RFC events on research methods over the last few years.
It will take place on Saturday 16th June, 9.30-4pm, in central London. Attendance will be free but will require pre-booking. Please click on the link below for the full programme and to book your place:
