| The Workshop will be co-facilitated by UKCP reg.psychotherapist Kieron |Deahl (who is also a novice magician!)
In its endeavour to be accaepted by the medical paradigm, psychotherapy has disconnected itself from its roots in traditional healing: healres, priests, sorcerers and shamans. While we have indeed gathered much knowledge and parctice, we have frequently abandoned the real magic too: the magic of connecting to another person, the magic of self-expression, the magic of the unconcious and, the magic of surrendering into the unknown. In this workshop we will open to both modern and traditional ways of inviting real magic into our lives in general, and in particular into therapeutic relationship, while still being respectful of and informed by psychodynamic principles, and boundaried therapeutic frame. Using tools from the worlds of humanistic psychotherapy, Self-Relations, hypnotherapy and NLP, as well as from traditions of shamanism and Body-psychotherapy, we will explore the magic in us that is waiting to unfold. |

| In a culture where anything "bad" is quickly fixed, and where any perceived "negative" feelings (grief, anger, hate, shame, guilt, passion, jealousy pride etc.) require "overcoming" or "getting rid of" - our shadows become ever bigger and daunting. When more aspects of ourselves are deemed unacceptale, we create an illusive self, which is two-dimentional and anxiety-ridden, lacking the flexibility of a whole human being. Meanwhile, our shadows find creative ways of expressing themselves in our lives: from destructive behaviours and relationships, through depression or anxiety, obsessions and addiction, to physical and psychosomatic symptoms. In doing therapy, it is ever so tempting to avoid these aspects of ourselves and our clients' and always "focus on the positive", perpetuating the split bewteen rich and rounded humanity and supermarket culture.
This workshop will be dedicated to exploring negatively-perceived aspects of our self, opening to them and finding ways of sharing our humanity through our shadows, not only through out light and goodness. Using a varietyof therapeutic modalities and tools, ranging from Jungian anyalysis, NLP and Ericksonian hypnosis, to Gestalt, Body-Psychotherapy and humanistic psychology, we will explore - as individuals and as a group, for ourselves and as therapists, what it feels like to be more present to our shadow.
Workshop takes place on Sunday 13th August 2006 10.00-1800 at The Open Centre, 188 Old Street London.
Cost: £70
Workshop Co-ordinatior: Maja Jankovic
FOCUS: skills/personal development/professional development
Experience level required: The workshop will have an experiential emphasis, and so, while it can be used for CPD to learn to work with clients, self-exploration is expected. The workshop could be used for personal development. Hypnotic or NLP will come in extremely useful but isn't a necessary requirement. |

| Fear and terror are prehaps the most challenging presentations in psychotherapy. The unique mindbody patterns associated with fear can pose a real difficulty to creating a genuine healing experience: Our thoughts become less ordered and threat - orientated, our habit-formation more easily enacted and the emotions can often become overwhelming to both client and therapist. This workshop, will explore ways of working with fear. The workshop will bring together theoretical, clinical and experiential aspects and so, while valuable for professional-development purposes, participants need to be willing to engage with their own processes and within the group. All three days will look at similar aspects of working with fear: recognising fear, thought patterns, physiology and anatomy of fear, referrals and safe guards. However, each day will offer a different angle for approaching fear in therapy (and life):

| Having an understanding of the underpinning structure of a situation, a relationship, or a response, allows us choice. We can choose to maintain or strengthen that structure to give us more of what we already have, or to find ways of amending or reshaping it to generate a more desirable outcome. Without knowledge of the structure we would merely be tinkering around the edges. This workshop will offer you a range of frameworks, strategies and ways of thinking, so that you can develop your own incisive system-detecting skills. You will then explore the range of responses available to you, so that these systems can be used to generate multi dimensional and multi purpose outcomes, in similar or different contexts. Anyone interested in modelling and devising models of behaviours will be queuing up to learn more. Focus: skills/personal development/professional development. | Boundaries are essential to help us differentiate ourselves from the other. Our skin helps us know where we end and another person begins. Without clear boundaries, we are lost in a world where fantasy and reality are not clearly defined. Yet when our boundaries are too rigid, there is no space for real connection. In this workshop we will look at defining, asserting and enforcing our boundaries as well as challenging inflexible boundaries. Suitable for all levels, willingness to engage with own process is necessary. The day can also be taken as part of training in Integrative - Mindbody - Therapy (IMT).

| The mythologist Joseph Campbell spoke of a great myth found in every culture across time. The person who is called on a "hero's journey" to transform their life and bring a gift into the community. This myth has three stages: the innocence of the garden, the exile and trials of the desert, and the call to return into the community with a new self. We will use this myth as a model for developing a Generative Self that is capable of deep inner happiness and significant external accomplishment. A major focus will be on developing the capacity to use extraordinary experiences, both positive and negative, to generate extraordinary outcomes. In the tradition of the great hypnotherapist Milton Erickson, you will discover how to recognise problems and symptoms as "thresholds" into new identities, and how to sense and utilise resources to further the hero's journey. You will learn how to develop extraordinary states of consciousness that have many applications: tranforming identity; envisioning and realising future states; changing negative beliefs and habits; healing emotional wounds and physical symptoms; deepening success in intimacy; and improving self-image and self-love.

| The essential process to NLP, is the practitioner's desire to understand the structure that underpins any behaviour. This desire to model and make sense of experience provides the basis for NLP's powerful changework potential.
There are many different frameworks offered in this pursuit. In the Experiential Array and Belief Template, David Gordon and Graham Dawes have produced an elegant, concise and precise framework that helps you identify the key components and inter-relationships of any experience, cleanly and succinctly. Whatever you choose to model, wherever you "pitch your flag", this structure opens up conversation and makes known the unconscious connections involved.
David brings to the field his extensive knowledge, humour and unfailing love. He is "an experience junkie". In him you will discover an exemplary modeller worthy of emulation. Find out how he is able to capture the essence of another's experience, processing and testing the quality of information he receives - judging what is important and what to leave behind. Learn the comlex process of modelling simply.

| As humans we all have a natural ability to resonate with others - we unconsciously respond to bodily signals, to thoughts and to feelings from others. In the therapeutic arena we often label this as transference and countertransference, (which is one type of resonance) while in other contexts it may be called intuition, empathy, tuning-in or mind-reading. If you are interestesed in learning about your abiliby to resonate, in devising skills for recognising it and fine-tuning it, while communicating and particulary while doing theraphy - then this workshop is for you. This one day workshop will incorporate theoretical, clinical and experiential aspects to assist you in exploring the fascinating area of resonance.
